Floyd Mayweather Jr. will come out of retirement at age 48 to face longtime rival Manny Pacquiao in a blockbuster rematch this September in Las Vegas. The bout is scheduled for Saturday, September 19 at Sphere — more than 11 years after their historic first meeting.
Pacquiao, 47, returned to action on July 19, 2025, challenging Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. Their bout ended in a majority draw, allowing Barrios to retain the championship.
Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision on May 2, 2015, in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” Despite enormous hype, the contest drew mixed reactions from fans, even as it shattered financial records with 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and more than $600 million in total revenue. Mayweather reportedly earned around $300 million from the victory — still the richest payday in boxing history.
“I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” Mayweather said ahead of the rematch.
The former multi-division world champion retired in 2017 with a perfect 50–0 record but has remained active in exhibition bouts, including an upcoming spring appearance against Mike Tyson.
Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion, previously stepped away from boxing in 2021 to pursue a presidential campaign in the Philippines before returning to the ring last year.
The long-awaited sequel promises to revisit one of boxing’s most lucrative rivalries — this time under the lights of Las Vegas’ newest mega-venue.
