Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi (Tems) has overtaken South African star Tyla to become the African artist with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify.
Tems recently reached 38.3 million monthly listeners, edging past Tyla’s 38.2 million. The surge follows a string of releases and collaborations, including “What You Need (Colour Version),” “Bounce Road Blues” with J. Cole and Future, as well as “Raindance” with Dave, which continues to gain traction.
She is now approaching the all-time African monthly listener record of 40 million, previously set by Tyla.
Tems as of February 2026, also remains the most-streamed female African artist on the platform, with 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
